How Reiki can benefit you.

Have you ever heard about Reiki and want to know what it is?

Two years ago, at work, my friend Jessica, had a problem with depression. It became a major problem in her life, as her work started suffering because of all the time she was taking off.
She tried many different ways to try and beat the depression, but the pills she was giving by her doctor just made her so tired that she couldn't stay awake.

She then tried various other methods until she went for a Reiki treatment and suddenly life started improving for her. From my point of view, she started getting happier and the smile that started appearing on her face every morning when she came to work, told me she was recovering. She also started laughing again.

I told her one morning at the coffee machine that she look so happy. She looked at me smiling and said, “Thank you, My life is changing and I am enjoying so much, thanks to Reiki”

That was the first time I had heard about Reiki. I listened intently as she spoke about her treatments and how it affected her. I became interested in it as it was an alternative therapy but seeing the results made me think that I needed to know more.

This is what I found.

Reiki is a stress reduction and relaxation technique that was developed by Mikao Usui. It can be administered in two ways, one by “laying on hands” or just “having the hands slightly off the body” hovering at the height of about ten centimetres.

The Reiki practitioner then allows the life force energy to flow into the patient. Once this happens, the patient either feels a warm sensation as the energy comes into them, some people feel emotional or just fall asleep.

This happened to me, I feel asleep during my first treatment and woke up feeling incredibly relaxed.

We all have energy within us. Sometimes the energy gets low and we feel tired or stressed, a Reiki treatment allows our energy to be topped up and which leaves us feeling happier and more calmer allowing us to make better decisions.

I was surprised to find out that the word Reiki is actually two Japanese words. Rei means “The higher power” and Ki means “life force energy”.

Reiki treats the whole body and including emotions, mind and spirit. It has been known to treat virtually every know illness and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works alongside all other major medical treatments to relieve the side effects and promote wellness.

When people start the Reiki journey, they always discover that it is a simple and safe method of self-improvement that everyone can use. It’s also very easy to learn. It is normally taught by a Reiki Master and the ability is passed on by an “attunement” which allows the student to tap in the everlasting supply of “Ki”.

It has been taught to over a million people worldwide and anybody can do it. It is not a religion, it has no dogma, and you don’t have to believe anything to perform Reiki.

I believe it comes from God, but you may see it differently, which is fine, but I have found that by using it, I have also become more calmer and approach life more spiritually than before.

I like the five principles which I learned during my attunement.

  • Just for today, do not worry
  • Just for today, do not anger
  • Honour your parents, teachers and elders
  • Earn your living honestly
  • Show gratitude to everything
